Synopsis

This paper will present a semantic-pragmatic analysis of the narrative style of Fr. Hijacint Repič on the basis of a corpus of his publications in journal Cvetje z vertov sv. Frančiška (1887–1916). Drawing on the insights of speech act theory (Austin, 1975) and the theory of the intensity of (Slovene) language (Mikolič, 2020), we will observe the speech act – addressing the addressee in periodical articles – through the proposition and its modifications, which influence the intensification of the message and  the final persuasiveness and effectiveness of the argumentation.
