Neighbouring Languages, Shared Futures: Pedagogies for Borderland Education
Keywords:
neighbouring languages, learning, pedagogies, didacticsSynopsis
This international symposium brings together leading scholars, teachers, and researchers to address the complex and ever-evolving landscape of language teaching and learning in border regions. The event pursues three main objectives:
- To highlight the importance of linguistic discourse in the context of an increasingly open territory (that of the two Gorizias), challenging the rhetorical dismantling of borders through the creation of cross-border spaces for genuine cooperation—where, until now, no initiatives have emphasised the urgency of defining language policies in alignment with this openness.
- To focus the attention of the academic community and educators—at both local and national levels, but with essential international contributions—on pedagogies, projects, and interdisciplinary approaches to language education in border areas.
To present the findings of Strengthening a (socio)constructivist approach to foreign language teaching and learning in primary schools in Slovenian border regions through a co-constructed extension and evaluation of the CoBLaLT model, also known as the CONTATTI! project (2021–2024/25). This research project, funded by the Slovenian National Research Agency, constitutes a cross-border scientific initiative—led by the Institute for Linguistic Studies of ZRS Koper and partner institutions, the Faculty of Humanities at the University of Nova Gorica and the Institute for Ethnic Studies (INV) in Ljubljana—dedicated to promoting contact language pedagogy through collaboration, research, and an interdisciplinary approach.
